Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund 2024
The people of Fountain City United Methodist Church (FCUMC) believe our mission is to love God and serve others. For the purpose of the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund, these additional stipulations are made regarding missions:
1. A Scroggie Gift will be above and beyond items budgeted by FCUMC.
2. In accordance with the wishes of Lucy Scroggie, the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund is used for missions sponsored by FCUMC or the Holston Conference; these may be local, national or international missions.
a. A FCUMC mission is defined, for the purpose of the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund, as a mission established through the FCUMC Mission Committee.
b. A Holston Conference Mission is defined, for the purpose of the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund, as a mission funded by Holston Conference Annual budget, Advance Specials or Holston Conference Special Offerings.
3. Regardless of the mission, certain characteristics must be met to qualify for funds from the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund.
a. Mission Characteristics: The mission should
• Be in line with the mission and vision of FCUMC.
• Help, empower, enable, and affirm those served as well as those who serve.
• Have active participation by our FCUMC members. See section 4 below for further definition.
b. Local Missions: A local mission is, for the purpose of the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund, is defined as a mission in close proximity of FCUMC reaching out to the boundaries of Holston Conference. Active participation in the mission must be fulfilled through at least item 4.a, as defined in this document.
c. National Missions: A national mission is, for the purpose of the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund, defined as a national mission that FCUMC is either leading or partnering with another church or group to travel to the mission location or provide materials to the mission. Active participation can be fulfilled through items 4.a, 4.b or 4.c as defined in this document.
d. International Missions: An international mission is, for the purpose of the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund, defined as an international mission that FCUMC is either leading or partnering with another church or group to travel to the mission location or provide materials to the mission. Active participation can be fulfilled through items 4.a, 4.b or 4.c as defined in this document.
4. Active Participation by FCUMC members is defined as the following:
a. One or more members of FCUMC actively participate by serving on-site with the mission.
b. Members of FCUMC actively participate in the mission by doing a local “hands-on project” (such as filling flood buckets or collecting school supplies) that directly benefits the mission.
c. Members of FCUMC contribute funds that directly benefit the mission. The funds will be outside the FCUMC budget and in addition to the Scroggie Mission Endowment Fund money.
