Fall 2026 Scholarships Application
The Fountain City UMC Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for the fall 2026 semester from Wednesday, July 1, 2026 through Friday, July 31, 2026.
The scholarships below are available for application.
- Charles Sloan Memorial Scholarship provides funds to assist college students on the basis of need and maintaining satisfactory scholastic performance. Priority is given to Fountain City UMC members intending to study a curriculum connected with the church or continuing their academic program.
- Dr. William "Sonny" Melton Music Scholarship is open to persons who have participated in the music programs of Fountain City UMC and who plan to pursue a career in education and/or music.
- Jay Garrison Adult Education Fund provides financial aid to adult students pursuing further education through GED, college, trade school, or other recognized programs.
- Erin's Fund was established in memory of Erin Sewell and provides assistance to individuals desiring to further their education serving children and/or children's ministry. Applicants do not need to be Fountain City UMC members, but must be a believer in Jesus Christ.

I was lucky to be chosen as a Melton Scholarship recipient throughout my undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees. This scholarship helped towards my expenses as a budding professional musician, from buying music for lessons, textbooks for classes, and even sticks and mallets for my growing collection. I always felt the support from FCUMC throughout my collegiate studies, but having the Melton Scholarship greatly impacted my success. I am proud to say that I received this scholarship, and my deepest gratitude goes to the donors for their financial support to music in higher education and to the committee members who saw my potential and decided to award me this scholarship for 10 consecutive years.

I have been very fortunate to receive the Erin’s Fund scholarship over the past couple of years. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to further my education because of this scholarship. The funds have helped me purchase books and pay for my specialty interim classes. Working in the nursery and childcare at FCUMC is something that I am super passionate about; so much so, that I want to become a preschool educator once I complete my time in higher education. I am blessed to have the support of the scholarship endowed in memory of former nursery employee, Erin Sewell. Thank you!

I am so grateful for the scholarship I have received. The support has allowed me to put funds towards purchasing my own instrument, attending world-class conferences including the International Women’s Brass Conference and Southeast Trombone Symposium, and affirmed my dedication to music as my life’s goal. It has been a driving factor in my commitment to my music education, because I know that I have support in a community that believes in the value of musical education.
