MISSIONS CELEBRATION 2020

January 28, 2020

Missions Celebration Weekend • March 27-29, 2020

March 27: Kick-off Dinner / Unload Rise Against Hunger Truck

March 28: Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event

March 29: Faith Promise Sunday with Guest Speakers

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Friday, March 27

Join us for our kick-off dinner at 6:30pm in Wesley Hall. Doug Shipman and his team will be serving up his famous lasagna! Dinner is free, but donations are gratefully accepted! Please reserve your plate by clicking on this link or by calling the church office at (865) 689-5175.

Our keynote speaker will be retired UMC deaconess, Betty Purkey, who will be sharing some of her personal experiences & reflections regarding the difference that we make together on behalf of furthering the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

We will also have a guest speaker from Rise Against Hunger, giving us the history of this global ministry and their vision of ending world hunger by 2030. We have partnered with Rise Against Hunger for seven years, and by the end of this Missions weekend, we will have packaged 260,000 meals!

After dinner, we are asking for volunteers to help set up the gym for our meal packing event!

Saturday, March 28

We will be packaging 40,000 meals with Rise Against Hunger during our annual meal packaging event! Volunteer shifts are 10am-12pm and 12pm-2pm. This is a very family-friendly event, with important tasks for all ages, so sign up the whole crew! (Dibs on ringing that gong!)

We need 200 volunteers to sign up for our Rise Against Hunger event! Please register now to help our church pack 40,000 meals!

Sunday, March 29

Our keynote speakers: Traditional Services : Betty Purkey, retired UMC Deaconess
The Journey Service: Mike Sluder, Director of Connectional Ministries for Holston Conference

Sunday School Hour, March 29

Speakers from several of our Faith Promise partners will be at our church during the Sunday School hour to tell us more about their respective ministries and the impact our support has on our community, state, and world. We encourage you to attend these presentations and learn more about getting involved:

• Bryan McClain of Camp Wesley Woods

• Ross Jones of Knoxville Dream Center

• Jay Zartman of Operation Backyard

• Dani Castillo of Hispanic Ministry

• Pastors Christinia and Joe-d Dowling-Soka of Willow UMC in Willow, Alaska via a live feed

• Mike Sluder of the Holston Conference will do a hands on project with our children

My Faith Promise for Missions

During all three worship services, you will have the opportunity to make your 2020-21 Faith Promise commitment. Because of your generosity, FCUMC has been able to support dozens of ministries over the years, above and beyond our General Fund Pledge. Thank you for being a church body dedicated to God’s call for our lives, and, as John Wesley so eloquently put it, making the world our parish.
