Classes
Starting Point • January 10-March 6
Do you have tough questions about faith? Are you new to the church? Or are you just looking to refresh yourself on the basics of Christianity? This 8-week class taught by Pastor Don is designed to walk you through the questions you have about faith in a small-group discussion setting. Starting Point is great for people of all ages and stages in faith, but especially those new to the church. We hope to see you there. Join us in Room 138.
Foundations: Methodist History • January 10-March 6
Join Pastor Chase for this 8-week course where we will explore together the fundamental question, “what does it mean to be a United Methodist?” Whether you’ve been a Methodist your whole life or you’re completely new to this whole “Methodist” thing, we know you will not only learn a lot in this class, but also have fun and fellowship in the process! A bonus to this class is Pastor Chase’s weekly curated pre-class playlists covering almost every genre of music. Join us in Wesley Hall.
Saving Grace • January 10-February 21
Walden Buttram will lead this 6-week course designed by pastors and financial advisors in the United Methodist Church to help our laity and clergy alike align their finances both with the Kingdom of God and with a brighter financial future in mind. This course is perfect for anyone looking to start down the path of financial planning and is both engaging and encouraging.
Join us in Room 210.
Step Study • Jan 10- March 6
This step study small group lead by Seth Charles is dedicated to those who are ready to dive deeper into their past and the choices they have made. You don’t have to have an alcohol or drug addiction to benefit from this group. Any participant will see real, lasting changes start to happen. Our 12-Step Study groups are split into men’s and women’s groups. They are safe places to share your heart and the things that you currently struggle with along with the pains and hurts from the past. Join us in Room 201.
Queens, Saints & Visionaries: Women in Christian History • February 7-March 13
Have you ever heard that women weren’t a significant part of Christian history, particularly the development of the early and medieval church? This Candler Foundry course taught by Dr. Sarah Bogue will introduce you to the wide range of women who contributed to Christian identity formation. We will explore the lives of these significant women through their own writings and texts which were composed about them. Let’s celebrate the influential women who defied conventions, left their mark on history, and continue to inspire us today! Join
us in Room 136.
Finding Jesus in the Psalms: A Lenten Journey • February 21 to March 27
This 5-week Lenten course led by Jerry Mitchell will engage the season of Lent with the Psalms using the book of the same name by Barb Roose. We will explore together the themes of the Psalms as well as the core themes of the season of Lent. All participants in this class will receive a free copy of the book! Join us in Room 135.
Revelating Revelation • March 27-April 17
Yes, we know, revelating is not a word. But this exciting 5-week Bible study led by Pastor Chase will explore the themes of Revelation, including the demythologizing of the text. This class will both challenge your understanding of Revelation while simultaneously reinforcing the notion that Revelation is just as important for us today as it was for the early church when John of Patmos wrote this unique epistle millennia ago! This Bible study is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience. Join us in Room 138.
There will be no programming on February 14 as we celebrate Ash Wednesday with an evening worship service, March 13 during Knox County Schools’ spring break and on March 27 as we celebrate Holy Wednesday.
