Through our annual Faith Promise missions giving, we at Fountain City UMC partner with life-changing ministries reaching far and across boundaries and barriers as we recognize God’s work in the world. This Sunday, we highlight three of our Faith Promise partners: South Sudan, Family Promise and Partners for Children.
- South Sudan: Children whose homelands have been ravaged by conflict and those living in or fleeing active conflict zones face steep barriers. Girls are more likely to be kept home from school than boys and often children cannot attend school because they must work in menial jobs to help their families survive. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) through the Education and Child Protection program in Sudan focuses on teacher training, school construction/reconstruction, establishing parent-teacher associations, and providing essential school supplies for students. In addition to constructing classrooms, UMCOR donates provisions to collect and store fresh water.
- Family Promise of Knoxville: Faith Promise is a nonprofit organization that unites with the interfaith community to help homeless and low-income families with children achieve sustainable independence, providing shelter, meals, and volunteer support.
- Partners for Children: PFC is a nonprofit organization that operates a child development center for preschoolers at Cedar Lane UMC. PFC’s mission is to provide quality care for preschool children while offering financial assistance to low-income families whenever possible. PFC believes that children are gifts from God and that their welfare is the responsibility not only of their parents but also of their community.
