EPIC Event on Emergency Preparedness

A representative of Knoxville/Knox County Emergency Management Agency (KEMA) will speak to us on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM about a variety of disasters and emergency situations that can (and have) taken place in and around Knoxville. What we should be prepared to do (and not do as well) will be outlined. We will hear about “shelter-in-place” and what that entails. We will understand what evacuation means and why that may be necessary and how long that might be required.

In the case of evacuation, what documents will we need to have with us, how do we store them at home and how do we take them with us? What is a “go bag” and how does it differ from a bag of clothes, toilet articles etc that you might take to hospital if you were having elective surgery? Making the suggested pre-disaster preparations will calm some of our worries and make it much easier for loved ones to take care of your affairs in case you can’t.

Finally, Knox County is implementing an emergency notification system very soon that will feature a variety of warnings and recommended actions for residents tailored to alert folks in a small area directly affected by the emergency that is occurring. Join us for a very informative and though provoking session. Lunch and fellowship will follow the presentation. Registration is mandatory (no signup = no lunch). The cost to attend is $10.00. Hope to see you there! It will be EPIC.
