This week, after many conversations with church members, Amy and John, and some of our leadership committees, Arlene Garrison (Chair of the Church Council) and Randy decided that it is in the best interest of our church family not to pursue the Dry Gap property any longer. Thus, we will NOT be holding a church Conference on Sunday, June 25. This has been a very difficult decision to make; it was clear from those conversations that we as a church are not of one mind on this matter.
Last Fall, Faith UMC merged congregations with Inskip UMC, leaving their building in the Dry Gap community unoccupied. The District Superintendent approached Fountain City UMC to consider acquiring the building, and its surrounding acres as a second campus opportunity, with the vision of expanding and growing the ministries currently housed at 212 Hotel Road.
In December, the Church Council formed the Envision Committee tasked to carefully consider this unique opportunity, and what it would mean for FCUMC as a growing congregation.
Church Council voted unanimously to dig deeper: to take a hard look at the facts, to refine the vision of a second campus, to consider the outreach opportunity presented in a different community, and to listen intently to where God wants to lead.
This page will be dedicated to sharing information with you, our church body, about this property and the opportunities it presents, as well as the challenges. We are asking you to pray over this decision as we continue to learn more, and participate in the discussion of moving forward.
We believe God has great things in store for this community, and we gratefully welcome your thoughts, prayers, comments, and insights at email@example.com.
