The Advent season is upon us! For us at Fountain City UMC, we love the anticipation and the waiting that comes with this time of year. It’s more than just the magic of Christmas – it’s recognizing the poignant grace and infinite mercy of God who loved us enough to reach down into the depth of our darkness and reconcile us to Him. It is the catalyst of our redemption story, Jesus in the flesh, Emmanuel, God forever with us.
If you are looking for a place to celebrate Advent, we hope you make your way to Fountain City UMC! Each Sunday, we will light the Advent wreath in each of our three worship services.
The Giving Tree:
This year’s Christmas collection will be brand new jeans for children sizes 4T to 12 for both boys and girls. We will collect these for Fountain City Ministry Center through December 30.
Advent Study:
Children and youth will receive their own Advent calendars during Sunday school. Advent materials for adults are available in the Narthex outside of the Sanctuary and in the hallway outside of the gym. We hope you are able to use these materials to deepen your understanding of God and this season of anticipation!
Christmas Concert:
Our children’s music ensembles will be performing on Sunday, December 2, at 6:00pm. This is always a fun worship experience for our youngest members, from leading the audience in Christmas carols and hymns to a musical reminding us about the spirit of Christmas! Join us for an array of talented kiddos!
Our chancel choir and special musical guests always put on a moving Christmas program each year! It’s truly a holy way to usher in this season of expectation and beauty. There will be two performances you won’t want to miss: Sunday, December 9, at 3:00pm and Monday, December 10, at 7:30pm. Both performances will be in the Sanctuary at Fountain City UMC. Can’t make it in person? The program will also be broadcast on local TV! Tune in to channel 10News2 on 12/24 at 3pm and 12/25 at 9am. Tune in to channel WBIR on 12/24 at 5pm and 12/25 at 6am.
Christmas Eve:
We hope you make it a family tradition to attend one (or more!) of our Christmas Eve services. Our Children and Family service will be at 4:00pm in the Sanctuary – bring the whole family, from infants to grandparents, for this family-friendly look at that night in Bethlehem so long ago.
Our contemporary-style Christmas Eve service is at 5:30pm in the Gym, with worship led by The Journey band.
The traditional candlelight service is at 11:00pm in the Sanctuary, as we end Christmas Eve under reverent candlelight.
We will also have many opportunities to serve in and around our community during this holiday season. Check back often to see what else we have going on this season!
