Psalm 126
Matthew 21:28-32
Habakkuk 3:13-19
The prayer and book of Habakkuk ends in these verses. Deliverances of Israel (the Anointed One) by God are recalled in 13-15. The emotions Habakkuk felt when God had revealed what is to come of Israel’s current enemy in verse 16. The character of Habakkuk is revealed in the rest of this prayer. He is at peace inside, no matter what is to come on the outside: “I will rejoice and be joyful in God my savior.”
Habakkuk had questioned God.
God had answered.
He didn’t like that answer.
He asked a second question and waited expectantly.
What was God’s reply?
“Write this down! The proud ones trust in themselves, but the righteous ones trust in me, they have faith in me.”
Habakkuk got the message.
I questioned God a few years ago. I had been trusting in myself for so long, but too many things started piling up that I couldn’t fix, nor ignore. I accused God of being unfair to me (after all I’d done for Him!). His answer? He sent Celebrate Recovery to my church so that I could finally lose my pride, rediscover my need for Him, and recover my sobriety, my faith, my trust, my peace.
God’s answer to Habakkuk wasn’t what he was expecting.
God’s answer to me wasn’t what I was expecting.
God’s answer to the world needing to be reconciled to Him wasn’t what it was expecting.
His ways are not our ways.
His ways work.
Have faith!
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will Advent again.
Rejoice and be joyful!
Have faith!
This is the first time I’ve read Habakkuk and I was not expecting to glean as much from it as I have. It’s very short, but impactful!
