SENIOR CARE CALLS
The Office on Aging is launching a new program in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Senior Care Calls will utilize volunteers to make weekly check-in calls to seniors who are homebound, isolated, and lonely. Although social distancing is an effective way to minimize the risk COVID-19 presents to seniors, the feelings of loneliness and depression could rise. In 2018, United Way of Greater Knoxville reported that there are roughly 23,000 seniors in Knox County living in isolation. That’s 1 in 4 of the senior population. Weekly check-in calls can help reduce the number of isolated seniors in Knox County. If you know a senior neighbor, friend, or family member who could benefit from a weekly check-in call, send an email to Deisha Finley or call the CAC Office on Aging at (865) 524-2786.
