Fountain City United Methodist Church exists in the center of our community as more than a building with members who worship. Our church acts as the very hands and feet of Jesus, reaching out in an attempt to soothe and mend what is, at times, a dark world. Some look to the church as a mere building, one in which sermons are given and hymns are sung; however, the body of Christ is much more than walls and pews. The church exists for every child who comes through the doors on a Sunday morning to be loved and fed by volunteers, as they graciously accept and put their faith into a loving Father. It presents itself in the work done by youth volunteers on wheelchair ramps and in foreign countries, teenagers who choose to use their hands, gifts, and time to show the world that disciples of Christ do not have an age requirement. The church lives in the workers who organize and volunteer through various community outreach programs: feeding the hungry, tending to the sick, and reminding the downtrodden that, while the world might choose to ignore them, Christ never does. All of these things are made possible through the sacrificial giving of time and financial support from our members. This continued support is reflected in our mission statement of “Making Disciples and Changing Lives.”
The church is more than a building; it is a living body of believers whose mission is to bring light and love to a bruised world. The Lord has called each of us to give in every way that we find possible, and we have the opportunity to demonstrate that giving as we enter our All In For Christ campaign. On Sunday, November 10, we will have the chance to decide how together we will best demonstrate being all in for Christ. By giving our prayers, presence, financial gifts, service, and witness, we are living into what it means to be the body of Christ. We hope that you will join us in our collective response to extend the ministry of Jesus, the one who demonstrated being “all in” for us.
