The Advent season is upon us! For us at Fountain City UMC, we love the anticipation and the waiting that comes with this time of year. It’s more than just the magic of Christmas – it’s recognizing the poignant grace and infinite mercy of God who loved us enough to reach down into the depth of our darkness and reconcile us to Him. It is the catalyst of our redemption story, Jesus in the flesh, Emmanuel, God forever with us.
If you are looking for a place to celebrate Advent, we hope you make your way to Fountain City UMC! Each Sunday, we will light the Advent wreath in each of our three worship services.
On Wednesdays, we will have a special Advent study: Faithful by Adam Hamilton, led by senior pastor Tom Ballard.
For those of us who have experienced loss, oftentimes the grief is more present during the holidays when we are constantly reminded about spending quality time with family members. Wondering how you will survive the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving and Christmas? Are you dreading these holidays, knowing that everything has changed and that happy memories from past years can’t be recreated? Our upcoming seminars will provide help and hope as you navigate this holiday season. Registration is open and the cost is $5.00.
Join us on Wednesday, November 14, for a GriefShare seminar that best fits your schedule. The morning seminar is from 10:00am until 12:00pm; the evening seminar is from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. For more information about our GriefShare ministry, please contact LeRoy Hatcher at (865) 689-5175.
Our children’s music ensembles will be performing on Sunday, December 2, at 6:00pm. This is always a fun worship experience for our youngest members, from leading the audience in Christmas carols and hymns to a musical reminding us about the spirit of Christmas! Join us for an array of talented kiddos!
Our chancel choir and special musical guests always put on a moving Christmas program each year! It’s truly a holy way to usher in this season of expectation and beauty. There will be two performances you won’t want to miss: Sunday, December 9, at 3:00pm and Monday, December 10, at 7:30pm. Both performances will be in the Sanctuary at Fountain City UMC. Can’t make it in person? Check this page or our Facebook page for scheduled recordings on TV!
We hope you make it a family tradition to attend one (or more!) of our Christmas Eve services. Our Children and Family service will be at 4:00pm in the Sanctuary – bring the whole family, from infants to grandparents, for this family-friendly look at that night in Bethlehem so long ago.
Our contemporary-style Christmas Eve service is at 5:30pm in the Gym, with worship led by The Journey band.
The traditional candlelight service is at 11:00pm in the Sanctuary, as we end Christmas Eve under reverent candlelight.
We will also have many opportunities to serve in and around our community during this holiday season. Check back often to see what else we have going on this season!
