Here at Fountain City UMC, we believe the Church is called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We believe Jesus empowered and commissioned us as his followers to heal the cracks in our world, to love the way he loved, to finish the work of making disciples and changing lives. We believe, wholeheartedly, this is our calling, this is our focus, this is our privilege.
To celebrate this calling, and to invite our community to join us, FCUMC will have our annual Missions Celebration on March 29-31. We will kick off the weekend on Friday with a church-wide meal with our special keynote speaker, Linda Stransky from Jubilee Project. Come enjoy a delicious meal and learn more about this important ministry serving Hancock County. We will also have a guest speaker from Rise Against Hunger, giving us the history of this global ministry and the vision of ending world hunger. After dinner, we are asking for volunteers to help unload the Rise Against Hunger truck and set up the gym for our meal packing event. To sign up for Friday’s meal, please contact the church office (865) 689-5175.
On Saturday, over two hundred volunteers will gather to package 40,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. The link to register is now live. We will have two 2-hour shifts on Saturday: 10am and 12pm. We need all hands on deck because these meals will be sent to some of the most impoverished, malnourished countries in the world. We can’t hit that goal without you! By the end of this year’s mission, our people will have packaged 220,000 meals! It is the God-sized vision of Rise Against Hunger to end world hunger in our lifetime, and we at FCUMC are humbled to play a small part of that vision. Please make plans to join us again next year, as we set our goal even higher! (All you’ll really need to know is: RICE GOES LAST.)
Donations to Rise Against Hunger in honor or in memory of a friend or loved one has become an Easter tradition at FCUMC. If you would like to make a donation, completed cards and the $10 donation per memorial or honorarium may be placed in the offering plate or delivered to the church office no later than noon on Monday, April 15.
Donation cards will be available beginning Wednesday, March 6. Checks should be made payable to FCUMC or Fountain City United Methodist Church.
On Sunday, speakers from several of our Faith Promise partners will be at our church to tell us more about their respective ministries and the impact our support has on our community, state, and world. Linda Stransky will be the keynote speaker for both Traditional services, and Sharon Bowers with UTK Wesley Foundation will be the keynote speaker for The Journey service.
During the Sunday school hour, we will have a “You Pick Two” option (like Panera!). Time slots for our speakers will be 9:45am-10:10am and 10:20am-10:45am.

Sunday school classes will have time to meet before or after the speakers’ time slots. We encourage you to attend these guests’ presentations and learn more about getting involved! During all three services, you will have the opportunity to make your 2019-20 Faith Promise pledge. Because of your generosity, FCUMC has been able to support dozens of ministries over the years, above and beyond our general stewardship commitments. Thank you for being a church body dedicated to God’s call for our lives, and, as John Wesley so eloquently put it, making the world our parish.
