Last Fall, Faith UMC merged congregations with Inskip UMC, leaving their building in the Dry Gap community unoccupied. The District Superintendent approached FCUMC to consider acquiring the building, and its surrounding acreage, as a second campus with the vision of expanding and enhancing the ministries currently housed at 212 Hotel Road.
In December, Church Council formed the Envision Committee made up of staff and members tasked with carefully considering this opportunity and what it would mean for FCUMC as a growing congregation.
On Sunday, March 26, after several months of collecting census data of the area, as well as prayerful consideration, the Envision Committee presented their findings to the Church Council. The purpose of this meeting was to review the overall conceptual vision and potential options for a path forward, and to decide if this opportunity was unquestionably outside of FCUMC’s capacity.
Their presentation briefed Church Council on the state of the building and property, possible ministry uses, and the initial costs to start up and operate the facility. This vision for the second campus includes creating a contemporary worship service at a non-traditional day and time, transitioning Celebrate Recovery, and creating opportunities for outdoor youth activities and additional Adults 50+ ministry events. Currently, there are no proposals to change any Sunday morning worship services or Sunday school classes. The Church Council voted unanimously to move forward. Over the next several weeks, the Envision Committee will be spearheading a much more detailed review of the property, including staffing implications, financial aspects, community data, and possible opportunities to meet that community’s specific needs.
